Factors Related to Myths In Exclusive Breastfeeding at The Working Area of Community Health Center in Banda Aceh

Abstract


Hereditary myths, advice, prohibition of parents which are circulating in the
community makes a mother lacks of confidence to give exclusive
breastfeeding to her baby. According to the observation at the working area of
Baiturrahman community health center in Banda Aceh from January to April
2016, the number of breastfeeding mother visits ranges from 131, 67.9% do
not give exclusive breastfeeding and still do not know the facts and myths in
breastfeeding. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors related to
myths in exclusive breastfeeding at Baiturrahman community health center in
Banda Aceh. This research is analytic with Cross Sectional approach. The
population is nursing mothers who visit Baiturrahman community health
center in Banda Aceh are 131, 57 were taken as samples, using slovin
formula and then questionnaires were distributed to the respondents.
Research was conducted on 4 to 8 Nopember 2016, then statistical test using
Chi-square, H0 is rejected if the p value> 0.05 and Ha is accepted if the p
value <0.05. The result is there is correlation between knowledge (p-value =
0.019), attitude (p value = 0.017), environment (p value = 0.038) and
education (p value = 0.031) with the myths in exclusive breastfeeding at
Baiturrahman community health center in Banda Aceh year 2016 . Advice to
mothers to always give exclusive breastfeeding to infants only breast milk
which contains the most complete immunity and do not believe in myths in
exclusive breastfeeding.
