ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN MAHASISWA DALAM MEMAHAMI KOSAKATA AKADEMIK BAHASA INGGRIS
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kemampuan mahasiswa dalam penguasaan kosakata akademik bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semeter dua jurusan ilmu gizi dan manajemen Universitas Ubudiyah Indonesia. Ada dua kelas mahasiswa yang dijadikan sampel dalam penelitian ini; kelas ilmu gizi dan kelas manajemen. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah soal teks bahasa Inggris ketrampilan membaca dan mendengarkan, serta kuisioner. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan penguasaan kosakata akademik mahasiswa dalam ketrampilan membaca dan mendengarkan umumnya berada pada tingkat menengah awal.  Ada beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi mahasiswa untuk memahami kosakata bahasa Inggris yaitu kebiasaan membaca teks bahasa Inggris dan faktor lingkungan sekitar. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan pedoman bagi pengajar bahasa Inggris untuk menentukan bahan ajar yang sesuai dengan tingkatan pengusaan kosakata.

This purpose of this study to identify students' abilities in mastering English academic vocabulary. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The population of this study was second-year students majoring in nutritional science and management at the University of Ubudiyah Indonesia. There are two classes of students sampled in this study; nutritional science class and management class. The instrument used in the study was a question of English text for reading and listening skills, as well as a questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that students' mastery of academic vocabulary in reading and listening skills is generally at the early intermediate level. There are several factors that influence students to understand English vocabulary, namely the habit of reading English texts and environmental factors in the place of study. The results of this study can be used as a guide for English teachers to determine teaching materials according to the level of vocabulary mastery.
